African Traditional Fusion

Kasiva Mutua is a renowned percussionist from Kenya, known for her talent and ability to blend traditional African rhythms with modern styles such as jazz, hip-hop, and reggae. As one of the few African women playing percussion on a global scale, she uses music to celebrate her community and advocate for women’s roles in the music industry. Kasiva co-founded MOTRAMUSIC, the first all-female percussion collective in Kenya, and she is also a member of the Nairobi Horns Project. She has performed at numerous international festivals and collaborated with renowned musicians such as Kirk Whalum and Oliver Mtukudzi. In addition to her music career, Kasiva is also a gender equality advocate and was named a TED Global Fellow in 2017. Her debut solo project, the EP NGEWA, was released in 2022, and she plans to release her first album in fall 2024.
