Blakaz is the brand new project imagined by multi-instrumentalist reunionese artist Loya.
The goal of this new proposal is to initiate collaborative works with various artists from the Indian Ocean area, aiming at releasing one album for each territory and tour in the region and beyond.
The first part of the project takes place in Mauritius, together with percussionist and singer Menwar.
After two residences on the spot, the two partners finalized the first album of the series, entitled “Sagaï” in reference to the style created by Menwar in the 80s (due in April 2020). The work focuses on typical sega music from Mauritius, with the intention of exploring new sounds, using synthetic sound sources while respecting the spirit of traditional sega.
The album release will be followed by a tour in Réunion and then in Europe.
During the second phase of the project, Loya will work in Madagascar, before heading towards Mozambique the following year to conclude the work.
