PANGAR is a tandem formed by two experienced associates: DJs and producers Kwalud and Betnwaar, also known in Reunion Island as the Sauvage Sound System.
In this new project, the pair develops research work combining Indian Ocean rhythms and bass music, balancing at the edge of both electro and creole worlds. In a constant clash of influences, the result is a percussive and hybrid sound, with a furious determination to make it dance all over the planisphere.
Behind their mix tables, they combine rythms and travel imaginary otherworlds, burning through urban sounds from both hemispheres.
Modern echoes of Maloya – the ancient music of slaves in Reunion Island, turned emblem for feisty new generations – meet jerky Soca grooves, ghosts of Dancehall, flashes of Club Music. Pangar’s experimental music simultaneously heralds and refuses the end of our world.
Rythms collide, mutate and interweave ; we may never know wether they’re kissing of fighting.
Such a promising project, supported by the DAC Réunion, the Regional Council of Réunion, and local venues Le Kabardock & La Cité des Arts. Upcoming EP « 1 » to be released in 2020.
