Muneyi is a South African singer-songwriter whose deeply personal compositions draw from Tshivenda storytelling traditions, weaving memory, spirituality, and contemporary folk textures into intimate musical narratives. Rooted in oral history and the wisdom of elders, his music invites listeners into a reflective space where vulnerability and healing take center stage.
An award-winning artist and recipient of the PanSALB Songwriting Award and the Standard Bank Young Artist award for Music 2025, Muneyi first gained national attention after winning the Afropunk Battle of the Bands, which led to the release of his debut album Makhulu in 2021. In 2023 he followed with the EP For The Boys I Like, a deeply personal exploration of love, sexuality, and abandonment and in 2025, a self reflective project titled There’s A Burning Sensation Where My Heart Used To Be.
His work has taken him to major stages across South Africa including Rocking the Daisies and Joy of Jazz, and internationally through initiatives such as OneBeat and performances at Sauti za Busara as part of the collective Swahili Encounters and Bushfire through the trio Litsomo.
Singing primarily in Tshivenda, Muneyi represents a new wave of contemporary African folk artists carrying ancestral storytelling traditions into global spaces.
