António Marcos is an iconic figure in Mozambican music. Born in Xai Xai in the 1950s, he discovered music by making a tin guitar. Moving to Maputo in 1963, he also became a national boxing champion. He recorded his first album in 1970, mainly in Changana, and became one of the greatest marrabenta artists. His iconic voice, cheerful personality, and symbolic gloves make him a living icon of Mozambican musical culture.
